Little did I know that once I received this book I would finish it in one sitting. I was immediately entranced to this book full of prose and poetry so real that it takes your breathe away. I could definitely relate to these poems. They were so raw and provocative. Kaur put herself out there completely by divulging what we all think about ourselves and how others make us feel sometimes.
I would give this a 10/10. I couldn’t put the book down once I started. I also discovered how amazing milk and honey is together but how bad it is for you…this can go back to the title of the book. Milk and honey is so delicious and mouthwatering but underneath it all it’s clogging your arteries, making you sluggish, it’s so pleasurable yet sinful. The person she refers to in her book was her own personal sin. She loved him more than she loved herself and when he was out of the picture she had to learn to truly love herself for who she was, the imperfections and all.
We as women struggle to love ourselves and it’s a damn shame. We’ve all had loves that were not good for us, loves that were not good to us. Why do we stay with someone who is so destructive? Because we can change them of course or better yet let’s change ourselves for them…NO. No woman and no man should change their selves for someone else’s benefit. Take me at my worst or get to stepping.
I struggle everyday to love myself the way I should. I think every human does. I really related to the prose below. I want to be complete without a significant other but with that person I want it to be magical. I found that. I’m fine with being on my own, I would be survive without him…but I don’t want to. I want him beside me because we are special, we are magic, we are worth it.
I need you all to read this. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you feel things you didn’t know you needed to feel. I mostly hope it makes you appreciate yourself because you should. Let no person ever make you feel inferior and less than the amazing, intelligent, and beautiful person you are.

“he only whispers i love you as he slips his hands down the waistband of your pants.”
“i want to apologize to all the women i have called pretty before i called them intelligent or brave…”
